It directly affects the menstrual cycle and makes the patient fat or slim or fat from the middle. Its symptoms are not very clear so it is hard to predict by only looking at her.

During this condition patient’s body starts making excess of androgens (male hormones), which causes ovulatory dysfunction. The reason of this disease is not known but modern fast food, junk food and abnormal lifestyle are the main causes of this disease.

Women with polycystic ovaries do not release an egg regularly and have ovaries containing multiple clumps of underdeveloped follicles.

PCOS patients who are not overweight can take 50 to 55% of calories from complex carbohydrates; but patients who are already obese and insulin resistant, should restrict their intake to 40% or less, depending upon their condition.

Here are some dietary tips that you can follow to tackle the problem naturally. A healthy diet combined with regular exercise can help a PCOS patient to achieve her target more effectively.

Diet plays a very important role in the treatment of PCOD and its symptoms. It is very important to control its symptoms and check hormonal imbalance. It is advisable to go with a high- protein diet and having more complex carbohydrates like whole grains, vegetables and high fibre options. Avoid simple carbohydrates in the form of breads, bagels, cereals, cookies, muffins, cupcakes and other baked goods.

It is advised to have 5- 6 meals in a day instead of 3 heavy meals to keep the blood sugar under check. Women with PCOD should drink a lot of water so that toxins are eliminated from the body and it also keeps your weight in check. It is also important to stay active with some exercise.

Patient can have mood swings, low sex drives. Depression, fatigue etc. that certainly makes her feels always sick.

There are some tests like ultra sound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Blood test and urine and Ovarian biopsy that can help to uncover the PCOD disease.

PCOD is a disorder that affects the insulin production in the body, specifically by causing the body to make excess insulin. So women with PCOS will probably need to think like a diabetic when it comes to how and what they eat.
